Last Transit of Venus in 21st Century

In Asia, the transit of Venus will be taking place sometime during the daylight hours on Wednesday, June 6 (somewhere between 9am to 12 noon). During a transit of Venus, Venus shows itself as a small, dark dot in front of the solar disk. Venus, the second planet from the sun, goes in between the sun and Earth in its orbit five times every eight years. Most of the time, however, Venus doesn’t go directly in front of the sun, but rather swings above it or below it. But on June 5-6, 2012, Venus directly crosses the sun’s disk for almost seven hours.

Cubes

Do you have any ideas what those cubes are?? Will you believe me if I said it's actually piles of sponge cubes? It was meant as a cushion for gymnast to train their routine and this photo was taken during my visit to the National Gymnasium in Bukit Jalil. Huge hall!! ;)

Partial Lunar Eclipse

EarthSky.Org reported that there will be a partial Lunar Eclipse on Monday, June 4th 2012, where the southern part of the full Strawberry Moon passes right through the northern part of Earth’s dark umbral shadow, to stage a partial eclipse of the moon visible in the Americas, Australia and Asia. For Malaysian, we will find the moon in eclipse as it rises over the east-southeastern horizon at sunset. The partial umbral eclipse lasts a little over two hours from start to finish. At mid-eclipse, about one-third of the moon’s disk will be covered over by the Earth’s dark umbral shadow. A very faint penumbral eclipse precedes and follows the dark umbral eclipse, even though most people won’t even notice the penumbral phase

'Belt of Venus'

I wish the sky remains clear this evening so I could catch the glimpse of 'Venus's Girdle' or also known as 'Belt of Venus'!

I have previously came across the term of 'belt of venus'  on 24th Oct 2010, while lingering around the topic of twilight, which started from learning my way through the names of clouds.. this is the caption from Mr.Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_of_Venus)

"It was said in that article that the Belt of Venus or Venus's Girdle is the name for an atmospheric phenomenon seen shortly after sunset or shortly before sunrise. It is observed as very nearly, surrounded by a pinkish glow or anti-twilight arch that extends roughly 10°–20° above the horizon. Often, the glow is separated from the horizon by a dark layer, called 'the shadow of earth'. The arch's light rose (pink) color is due to back-scattering of reddened light from the rising or setting sun. When the sky is clear, the Earth's shadow is visible in the opposite half of the sky to the sunset or sunrise, and is seen right above the horizon as a dark blue band. A related phenomenon is the "Belt of Venus" or "anti-twilight arch", a pink band that is visible above the dark blue of the Earth's shadow, in the same part of the sky."

Intricate details loosing out to new material

The pediment still standing strong after 105 years later! It is so excited to drove around Ipoh old town and looking up to series of handsome buildings, some are being refurbished to its yesteryears glory while some are being neglected. However, there lies a tiny dissapointment at the bottom of my heart when these glorious building, of once a symbol of booming economy era of merchants and traders were not restore to its original state. Seen here where the windows are using a current mass-production windows which doesn't rhyme with its architecture language. :(

Fusion architecture? It is NOT!

I wonder, why would a 'minangkabau' style roof doing in Ipoh?? If it were meant to be of a tropical-traditional style, Perak has its own distinctive style that Perakian could still be proud of and relate to.
